Murrel Wilmoth, Jr's Obituary
Murrel Wilmoth Jr., 92, of Tulsa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Ascension St. John Medical Center in Tulsa.
Born April 4, 1932, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Murrel was the son of Murrel Sr. and Ione (Brown) Wilmoth. He graduated from Webster High School and attended Oklahoma State University, where he studied Architecture and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Administration.
Murrel proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard. Following his military service, he built a distinguished career as a City Planner for the City of Tulsa. He also served as treasurer for RETA (Retired Employees of Tulsa Association), where he was known for his meticulous attention to detail and unwavering dedication.
A gifted architectural draftsman, Murrel's remarkable talent for architectural drawings was recognized throughout the professional community, with numerous architects specifically seeking out his exceptional work. His passion for architecture remained a central part of his life.
Murrel met his beloved partner, Ralph Krause, at a Christmas party in Tulsa. Together they built a loving home where Murrel enjoyed spending time with their cats. His friends and family knew him as generous, intelligent, trustworthy, non-judgmental, and grounded. Murrel never had a harsh word for anyone and approached life with awareness and resilience, navigating challenges with remarkable composure and grace.
He is survived by his partner, Ralph Krause, along with extended family and friends who will deeply miss his presence in their lives.
A funeral ceremony honoring Murrel's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 14, 2025, in the Rivercrest Chapel. Interment will follow at 2 PM in the Tahlequah Cemetery.
