Michael Wayne Montgomery's Obituary
Michael Wayne Montgomery
Feb 15, 1953 - Feb 12, 2026
Michael Wayne Montgomery, 72, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma passed from this life Thursday, February 12, 2026, just three days before his 73rd birthday. He was born February 15, 1953 in Henryetta, OK to Richard L. and Billie Jean (Louchery) Montgomery. Known to close friends as "Mono", he was most proud of being Poppy to his three grandchildren: Josie, Hazel and West.
Michael's early years were shaped by his father's work in the oil industry with Brown and Root, which meant the family traveled extensively during this time. He spent cherished periods with his grandparents on the family farm in Lawrence County, Illinois, forming bonds that would last a lifetime. In 1967, Michael, his parents and brother, Rick, moved to Wagoner, OK, growing up on the lake where his love of fishing and waterskiing began, and lifelong friendships were made.
Michael graduated from Wagoner High School in 1971, where he served as Senior Class President. He excelled on the football field as "monster back" and was also a wrestler. He then continued his education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah.
Michael built a successful career in the oil and gas industry, specializing in submersible pumps and cryogenic pump assembly that combined technical expertise with the pioneering spirit of Oklahoma energy sector. It was while working at Byron Jackson Pump that he met the love of his life, Jacquie. They were married March 24, 1989 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas beginning a partnership that would span nearly 37 years.
Music was Michael's passion and joy. An accomplished musician, he played upright bass and bass guitar as well as other stringed instruments, with particular devotion to bluegrass. One of his greatest pleasures came from gathering with friends every Friday night in his 'blue barn" to play music, creating harmonies and memories that resonated far beyond the notes. He has helped instill his love of music to his grandchildren by gifting some of his instrument to them.
Those who knew Michael remember him as kind and gentle, with a boisterous laugh - a man whose quiet strength and warm spirit touched everyone he encountered.
Michael is survived by his wife, Jacquie; son Dustin; stepson Brian Elliott (Alysia); grandchildren: Josie, Hazel, and West; brother Rick (Brenda); nephews, niece, great nephews and niece, as well as cousins and numerous friends.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the Wagoner Community Center at 12:00 PM with dear friend, Charlie Wilson officiating. Following the service, there will be a potluck dinner and a circle of friends playing music - thereby fulfilling his wish of family, friends, food, fellowship and music!
