My family moved here from California in 1963. I knew no one and that first day entering Broken Arrow Junior High School made me feel awkward and uncomfortable. Sitting in a classroom without a friend in the world was very difficult. It didn’t take long, however, to get acquainted with Leeann Belford and she became my first and best friend for several years. I was so very thankful for her friendship. Though we lost touch as school friends frequently do as they enter adulthood, she always held a special place in my heart, and we reconnected recently for a few lunch dates. Rest In peace, sweet Leeann, and thank you for helping an outsider feel not so much an outsider. I love you.
