A Celebration of Kurt's life will be 11:00 AM, Friday, February 6, 2026 at St. James Church, 5050 East 111th St S, Tulsa, OK 74137.
Kurt Ross Melby, age 82, of Bixby, Oklahoma, passed away on January 26, 2026.
Kurt was born on March 18, 1943, in Oak Park, Illinois, the son of the late Glen and Janet Bosshard Melby. He spent his early years in Illinois before building a life marked by hard work, service to others, and a deep love for family.
On August 28, 2010, Kurt married Georgann Melby in Bixby, Oklahoma, and together they shared 15 meaningful years of marriage filled with faith, generosity, and service to their community.
Kurt spent his career working in the cement industry. He began his professional life in Chicago, where he worked in concrete testing and inspection. In the early 1970s, he relocated to Dallas, Texas, and worked for W.R. Grace for more than 20 years as a district manager. In the late 1990s, Kurt moved to Iola, Kansas, where he served as President of Monarch Cement before relocating to Tulsa to run their subsidiary, Tulsa Dynaspan, where he eventually retired.
Kurt was an active member of the Bixby Rotary Club and, alongside Georgann, was a devoted member of St. James Church. Much of their retirement years were spent helping others through disaster relief efforts. Kurt would clear foundations and assist with cleanup using his skid steer, while Georgann lovingly prepared meals for relief workers - a true reflection of their servant hearts.
In his free time, Kurt enjoyed woodworking, flying remote control airplanes, traveling throughout the United States and abroad, as well as fishing and hunting. He was known for his honesty, wise counsel, and great sense of humor - always telling the truth while making others feel valued and heard.
Kurt is survived by his wife, Georgann Melby; his sister, Karen Melby Briggs; his daughters, Kristine (Scott) Smith, Susanne (Kevin) Knowles, Sharon Prewitt, and Sandra (Randy) Lewis; his bonus daughters, Leslie (Curtis) Simms and Sydney (Monte) Freeman; as well as many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Janet Melby; his brother, Tony Melby; and his sister, Lynn Melby Helma.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to God's Pit Crew at www.godspitcrew.org/donate.
