Garnet M. Cole was born in Caddo, OK on March 22, 1927, and departed this life for life eternal on February 7, 2023. He was reared in Earlsboro, OK. The son of an oilfield worker and graduated from Earlsboro High in May 1945. He played first team in baseball and basketball all four years. He entered the Army in July, 1945 and took his basic training at Camp Joseph T. Robinson in Little Rock, Ar. In December, 1945, he married his high school sweetheart, Maxine A. Carter-also an Earlsboro High graduate and then shipped out in January, 1946, for South Korea, for occupational duty for the year 1946. During his stay in South Korea, he served as the First Sergeant of Headquarters Company, 31st Infantry Regiment of the 7th Division. Upon returning home in early January 1947, he and Maxine moved to Duncan, where he began his work with Amerada Petroleum for the next nine years. During this time, they began their family with two daughters-Linda and Marsha. The Coles were converted to Christ during a revival at Velma Baptist Church in 1952, and indeed began a new life with a new purpose. He was called to preach in 1954, and began preparation for his life's work at Cameron College in Lawton. He moved from Fair Church in 1958 to become pastor of First Baptist in Choctaw, and enrolled at Oklahoma Baptist University at Shawnee in the fall. He moved from Choctaw in the summer of 1960 to become pastor of Red Fork Baptist Church in Tulsa from 1960 to 1975. He then became Executive Director of Tulsa Baptist Association until his retirement in 1992. He was honored with a doctor of divinity degree from Clarksville School of Theology in 1982. What a blessed time to serve these three churches and the Tulsa Baptist Association. He often stated that he wouldn't take anything for this unique experience. In retirement the Lord allowed him to serve twenty-five Southern Baptist Churches as interim pastor. Dr. Cole is survived by: wife of 77 years, Maxine A. Cole, and a favorite son, G. Mitchell Cole and wife Glenna. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Dr. Cole was preceded in death by daughter, Linda E. Smith and husband Vernon D.
