Catherine Leigh Huston's Obituary
Catherine "Cathey" Leigh Huston was born July 7, 1957, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Dr. Preston Davis Landrum and Carol (Cross) Landrum. She was raised in Pawhuska, where her father practiced dentistry. Cathey graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1975 and went on to attend Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, earning a degree in business.
While working for a trailer manufacturing company in southwest Missouri, Cathey was introduced to a charming sales representative, Brent Huston, who lived in Kansas City. What began as a lighthearted conversation and playful flirting soon turned into something more, leading to their first official date on November 11, 1990. The two were married on May 2, 1992, beginning a devoted partnership that would span decades.
Cathey and Brent made their home in Grove, Oklahoma, where they raised their children. After their children were grown, they spent time living in Kansas City before eventually returning to Oklahoma, settling in Tulsa in 2008.
Professionally, Cathey worked as a sales representative for Bates & Associates and Gallery Graphics before retiring. While she had a successful career, her greatest joy and proudest role was being a mother. She was known as the "cool mom"-always engaged, supportive, and in tune with what mattered most to her children and their lives.
Cathey was known for her warmth and vibrant spirit. She was fun, kind, intelligent, and genuinely complimentary of others. She had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued and truly never met a stranger. Her selfless nature and loving heart left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She also found great joy in the quiet beauty of home. Cathey loved planting and caring for flowers in her backyard and around the pool, creating spaces that reflected her eye for beauty and her nurturing spirit. In more private moments, she expressed herself through writing-personal reflections that revealed her deep faith, her thoughts on life, and her connection to nature. She was a deep thinker and feeler, someone who was profoundly moved by poetry, Scripture, art, and the world around her.
To Brent, she was not only his wife but his best friend-the person who completed him in every way. His love for her is evident in every word, and his greatest joy has always been finding ways to spoil her and make her feel cherished.
Cathey was also a fighter. For over 20 years, she faced cancer with remarkable strength, grace, and resilience, inspiring those around her with her courage and determination.
She had a deep love for life's simple joys-cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, traveling to Jamaica, and spending time at Grand Lake. She especially loved being near the water, happiest when relaxing on a boat, affectionately known as being a "boat ornament." Wherever there was water, there was peace-and that's where Cathey loved to be.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Preston Davis Landrum and Carol (Cross) Landrum.
She is survived by her loving husband, Brent Huston; her children, Matt Gurley and wife, Anna, and Chelsea Edwards and husband, Eashay; and her cherished grandchildren, Dorian, Isabella, Braiden, Jaxin, Ava, MaryAnn, and Nataleigh. She is also survived by her siblings, Leslie Snively and husband, Jimbo, Stanley Landrum, and Karen Landrum and Allan; her mother-in-law, Janice Huston; her brothers-in-law, Brian Huston and wife, Robin, and Mark Huston and wife, Jani; her best friend, Judy Daughtery; and many other dear friends.
