It was never a thought in my mind that would have to make funeral arrangements for my wife Amber. Bixby-south Tulsa was recommended to me by a family member so I chose them for our funeral home. It was the most pleasant experience that we could have asked for from the first moment I met with Jody and Kara. They did a wonderful job in listening to everything thing that we had to say about her. I truly felt like they were not just there because they had to be but they wanted to help us create the best last memory Amber. We were always made to feel as comfortable as possible given the circumstances. I am forever thankful to them for helping us through this process even after the funeral has passed.
Several years ago my husband, Ken purchased pre planned funeral and cremation arrangements for both of us to be prepared for the unexpected. He was led by the Lord to Bixby Funeral Service and Crematory while it was owned by the Selbys. Ken found Mr Selby to be integral, able to provide my husband with preparation, viewing and cremation services tailored to our request at a reasonable cost, as well as a beautifully central location close to hotels, restaurants and the airport for our out of town friends and family.
The unexpected came in the early hours of March 27 th 2021 when my husband passed on to Heaven. Bixby Funeral Service and Crematory is now owned and operated by the Greene’s and all arrangements were seamlessly transferred to and carried out by Jody and Kara and their partner, Chris Teel. You will find the same character, integrity, and excellence that we expected before.
Words can barely express the gratitude I have for the Greene’s. The comfort they have brought to my family and I during this sad and shocking time, as well as everything they have done for Ken, myself and our family will never be forgotten. I trust them, I found them to be compassionate, caring, sensitive, very skilled in their business and professional.
Jody arrived at the hospital within an hour of Ken’s passing dressed in a suit, and his kindness brought comfort immediately. He gave my daughters and I time to say goodbye to their dad and my husband of 58 years. Then, Jody explained how to contact him and what the next step was. What stood out the most was the black bag you expect to be on the gurney wasn’t visible but rather a beautiful red blanket to remove Ken’s remains with dignity. I found it to be the first of many comforting steps to heal our hurting hearts.
Kara later welcomed us at the Funeral home and gave us a tour of the beautiful, newly renovated buildings. She had all of the pre arrangements with her that Ken had made and she listened and asked questions of my daughters, their husbands and I. She built a list about Ken that Jody later used to write a beautiful life story. She patiently listened to us and made us each feel like we mattered. Kara directed us to an amazing florist, and a great caterer. I cannot speak more highly of either.
She gathered our photos and created a video and online display, made memory cards too. Kara took the details from mine and Ken’s life and a display and memory table greeted us in the foyer when we first arrived for the viewing. This was about total heart warming surprise.
There was NO detail left undone. It wasn’t just a difficult time for us personally, but Covid has interrupted normal life. However, the Greene’s enabled us to have a viewing in person where everyone was safe and comfortable. They also streamed Ken’s funeral service online for those who could not be there. Great care was taken with Ken’s body and I took great comfort that they prepared him as he looked in life.
The flowers and plants were photographed with the their cards and given to me with the thank you cards. The flowers were delivered to my home and a nursing home following the service.
At a time of death and sorrow, the Greene’s are a blessing and brought healing, and comfort to the living. The after care has been unexpected and amazing. They have put me in touch with others who are in similar circumstances as I am. Introducing me to people to meet with socially and celebrate life with. Our experience at Bixby Funeral Service was nothing less than amazing, Chris and Jody and all the office staff were so kind and helpful, no pressure and guided us through every step with kindness and compassion.
