Wilma Jean McKee, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on April 1, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born on September 3, 1929, in Covington, Oklahoma, to Edwin Jean Clodfelter and Nina (Sharp) Clodfelter. Jean, as she was affectionately known, was raised and educated in Hayward, graduating from high school in 1947.
On December 28, 1947, Jean married the love of her life, Melvin LeRoy "Mel" McKee, in the Pleasant Hill Country Church. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. They made their home in Shidler, where they raised their children, Mike and Jane.
An active member of the Methodist Church, Jean's faith was central to her life. Her love for God was reflected in her selfless service to others, always seeking opportunities to help those in need. Jean's generosity, kindness, and unwavering optimism touched the lives of all who knew her.
Jean's devotion to her family knew no bounds. A gifted seamstress, she lovingly crafted clothing for her children, ensuring they always looked their best. Her talent extended to creating cherished memories, such as Jane's wedding dress, a testament to Jean's skill and love. Summers were filled with camping trips, where the family bonded over hiking, fishing, and skiing, creating lasting bonds and cherished memories.
Mel's career with Phillips 66 took them across the United States, before retiring to Grand Lake. Jean continued to spread joy through her culinary skills, hosting gatherings where family and friends gathered to share in her delicious meals and warm hospitality. Her passion for painting brought beauty into the world, and her artwork will be treasured by her loved ones forever.
Jean is survived by her children, Mike McKee and wife, Vici, and Jane Laney and husband, Ed; grandchildren, Jennifer Robertson, James and Jesse McKee, and Sam Laney; brother, Clarence McKee and wife, Grace; great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, Mel McKee, her parents, and her brother, Walter Clodfelter.
Jean's legacy of love, compassion, and service will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved Mel, in the arms of her Heavenly Father.
