In Loving Memory of Wilma Reategui Farias
Wilma Reategui Farias, a vibrant soul born on April 29, 1937, in the picturesque mountains of Satipo, Peru, passed away on January 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born to Nicanor Reategui and Ana Katarina Frank Reategui, Wilma's early years were shaped by the scenic beauty of her mountainous hometown. Her family later moved to Lima, Peru, where she began working in the local church office, fostering a strong connection to her community. In Lima, she and her cousins shared joyful moments at local dances, creating cherished memories that would stay with her throughout her life.
At the young age of 24, on August 9, 1961, Wilma embarked on a journey to Los Angeles, California, sponsored by her Aunt Irma. Fueled by her determination to support her family back in Peru, she initially worked as a seamstress before transitioning to various assembly positions. Her hard work and resilience were evident in her dedication to providing for her loved ones.
It was during her time in California that Wilma was introduced to Oscar Farias after being invited by a co-worker to join the family on Thanksgiving. After a 2 ½ month courtship, they exchanged vows on February 1, 1964. Instantaneously, Wilma became a loving stepmother to three boys, Michael, Randolph, and Mitchell. In the years that followed, the family expanded with the arrival of daughters Ivonne (1966), Sheila (1968), Aileen (1970), and Allyson (1973).
Wilma's family-oriented spirit was reflected in their yearly traditions of beach vacations, winter mountain retreats, and visits to various amusement parks. Sundays were reserved for joyous family dinners, creating lasting bonds and shared laughter.
In the company of dear friends Brenda and Jerry, Wilma and Oscar enjoyed exciting trips to Las Vegas and cherished weekends filled with card games. Quarterly luau dances with sister-in-law, Lucy and brother-in-law, Arsy added a touch of festivity to her life.
A passionate dancer, Wilma's love for the art was complemented by her linguistic talents. Fluent in Spanish, Quechua, and English, she effortlessly bridged the different cultures.
Her hands, skilled at more than just dancing, lovingly sewed dresses for her daughters to wear to church, leaving behind a tangible legacy of her creativity and care.
Wilma Reategui Farias will be remembered as a pillar of strength, a selfless soul, and a social butterfly whose love knew no bounds. Her departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
