My sister married into the Marrs family and so I didn't really get to know Wanda until we worked together in her son Scott's catering business. I was young and a little intimidated by the thought of working with Wanda because I knew she was a very good cook. I don't remember what recipe we were making, but Wanda observed me scraping out a bowl and getting every last bit of batter out, and she immediately praised me for not wasting anything and how a lot of the "young people" these days just waste so much. After that we were fast friends. We talked recipes and she made me feel at ease in the kitchen. Later on she began saving her magazines for me, knowing I loved looking for something new to cook and I would often find some of them with pages "dog eared" highlighting recipes she must have thought sounded good. She always sent cards at holidays and even though we didn't see as much of each other in the last few years, I always knew she was thinking of me and my family. So thankful that this goodbye is not forever and that we will see each other again.
