I first met Wally when I was working as a facility engineer in the Maintenance and Engineering (M&E) area of American Airlines. He was on loan from the drafting department to help our three engineers in the Facility Engineering Group. Wally did his usual great job for us and it started a lifelong working and personal relationship. When I advanced to a managers job at the data center of American Airlines I hired Wally as a facilities engineer. One day as he and I were eating our brown bag lunch, we decided to go out one day of the week. We chose to go to Coney Islander on Wednesdays since it was one of only a few eateries that were close by. That lunch meeting continued through both of his and m my work careers and into our retirements. Through the years many others have joined in on our lunch gatherings and got to know and love Wally as I have. I will always value his friendship and will always consider him to be one of my very best friends. I miss you buddy.
My dad, Marcus Hulings, was an engineer at American during the same time "Wally" was there. "Wally" was a good friend of my dad's and a favorite co-worker. The men in my dad's "group" often played cribbage during lunch breaks and I think "Wally" was one of those who played. When my dad retired ('81) they presented him with a retirement celebration which included this large poster signed by many of his associates, which, of course, included "Wally" (note the red arrows). I met "Wally" several times and my dad always introduced him as "one of the 'characters' I work with". Our family sends our blessings and prayers to yours as we share fond memories of our "characters".
