Tommy Calverley Obituary Services to honor and celebrate the life of Tommy Powell Calverley, Jr., will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2020, in the First Baptist Church (FBC) of Sayre. Visitation will be before the service, beginning at 9:00 a.m. also at FBC, Sayre. Tommy passed from this life on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. He was 57. Services have been entrusted to the care of Bixby Funeral Service. Tommy Powell Calverley, Jr., age 57, of rural Ardmore and formerly of Sayre, Oklahoma, passed away at his home, Tuesday morning, February 11, 2020, with his family by his side.Born March 9, 1962, in Dallas, Texas, Tommy was the son of Tommy Powell Calverley, Sr. and Bessie Duff (Yarbrough) Calverley. Moving to Wheeler, Texas, at an early age, it was there that Tommy attended school and participated in athletics. Some of the highlights of Tommy’s life occurred when he was in school with his teammates, or “My Guy’s” as Tommy would call them, as they went to state in 1977, 1978 and 1979 – winning the state football championship in both 1977 and 1979. In those days, Tommy was known for his speed and it was said that he could run like the wind. Moving to Sweetwater his senior year, Tommy graduated high school in 1980. On July 10, 1981, Tommy married the love of his life, Glenda Kay Hagerman. The couple would spend the next 38 wonderful years together until Tommy’s untimely death. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Lakin, Kansas where they spent a short time before moving back to Sweetwater. In 1998, they made their home in Sayre. Known as a hardworking man, Tommy worked in the oil field for several years and was later employed by CCA, at the Sayre Prison, in the maintenance department where he later served as a supervisor. Tommy’s last employment was with Superior Fabrication retiring in March 2019 when he and Glenda moved to Ardmore. In his spare time, Tommy enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles and watching his grandchildren at their sporting events. Tommy was a volunteer fireman at the Sweetwater and Sayre Fire Departments, President of OK #8 Red Knights Motorcycle Club and member of the First Baptist Church in Sayre.Preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Clint Harrold, Tommy is survived by his wife, Glenda, of the home, in Ardmore; three daughters, Terri Quinn and husband Brian of Ardmore, Andrea Weygand and husband Sammie of Sayre and Jaycee Calverley of Edmond; seven grandchildren, Tatum Quinn, Scout Quinn, Serenity Weygand, Imani Weygand, Avery Weygand, Mackenzie Weygand, and Gracie Blanco; one brother, Leland Calverley of Wills Point, Texas; one sister, Bonnie Brickey of Wilson, Oklahoma along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations, in Tommy’s memory, be directed to Dream League Baseball, 207 Valentine, Elk City, OK 73644 or Dream League Baseball at Legacy Bank or Pay Pal Ok8redknightsmc.com.
