Terri Dawn Herrod's Obituary
Terri Dawn Herrod, 69, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, at her residence in Owasso, Oklahoma. Born on October 22, 1955, in Clinton, Oklahoma, she was the beloved daughter of Lonnie Bruce and LaDonna Marie (Stutzman) Sheperd.
Terri's vibrant personality shone early in life. While attending Burkburnett High School in Texas, she was a standout student who graduated at the top of her class in 1973. An active member of the pep squad, she earned multiple academic awards in English, Spanish, and typing, and was well-known and beloved by her classmates and teachers alike.
It was during her high school years that a chance encounter at the local Dairy Queen would change her life forever. At just 16 years old, Terri met Stephen Herrod, beginning a love story that would span nearly five decades.
After graduation, Terri pursued higher education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where she studied pharmacy with hopes of building a career in healthcare.
On August 7, 1976, Terri married her high school sweetheart, Stephen Herrod, in a beautiful ceremony at the First Baptist Church in Burkburnett, Texas. The young couple moved to Owasso in 1978, where Terri completed an internship at Owasso Drug. She particularly cherished working there during Halloween season, when her love for festive celebrations could shine through her work.
For the past 22 years, Terri was a cherished member of the Walmart family. Her warm personality and genuine care for others made her a beloved figure throughout the store. From the cart organizers to her colleagues at the jewelry counter, everyone knew Terri, and more importantly, everyone loved her. She had an extraordinary ability to make every customer and coworker feel special and valued.
Terri lived life with sparkle-literally and figuratively. Known for her impeccable style, she possessed an impressive collection of about 70 watches, ensuring she had the perfect timepiece for every outfit, and 34 pairs of Birkenstock sandals. Her husband Steve lovingly teased that "sparkle" was her favorite color, an observation reflected in her glittering jewelry and radiant personality.
An enthusiastic lover of music and dance, Terri enjoyed everything from easy listening and classic rock to soft piano melodies. She was particularly fond of Elton John and never missed an opportunity to attend shows and concerts. Her passion for movement led her to participate in Jazzercise and belly dancing, activities that perfectly captured her zest for life.
Terri had an insatiable love for fashion, constantly updating her wardrobe with beautiful clothes, shoes, and jewelry. Her style was as vibrant and welcoming as her personality.
Those who knew Terri invariably speak of her kindness and warmth. She possessed a rare gift for making everyone feel like her friend, and indeed, everybody was. Her sparkling personality, generous spirit, and genuine care for others left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Terri was one of those exceptional people who could light up a room simply by entering it. Her legacy is one of love, friendship, and the countless lives she touched with her boundless warmth and infectious joy.
Terri is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Stephen Herrod; her loving sister, Tammi Elizabeth McGown and her husband Dennis; and her cherished niece, Hannah Ralston. She also leaves behind the countless friends and colleagues whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
A Celebration of Life service is being planned for October, where family and friends will gather to honor Terri's memory and celebrate the remarkable woman who brought so much light and love into the world.
