Steven Joseph Slagle's Obituary
Steven Joseph Slagle, age 70, of Stonebluff, Oklahoma, took his last earthly adventure up Concharty Mountain on a beautiful fall-like day, August 26, 2025. He was born in Ponca City, OK, on August 22, 1955, to William J. Slagle and Christa E. (Neumann) Slagle.
Steven began his early education in Tucson, AZ and Tulsa, OK, where the family lived next to Tulsa University. As a young entrepreneur, he parked cars for Hurricane fans on game days at the family home. In 1971, the family moved to rural Stonebluff, OK, to operate the Stonebluff Store. There, Steven assisted customers with gas and groceries. He was proud to play football for the Haymakers and graduated from Haskell High School in 1973. Following graduation, Steven pursued higher education and briefly attended Claremore Junior College.
Moving forward Steven held various service jobs in Tulsa, OK. He spent a brief time in Utah with his father. Disabilities brought him back to his Stonebluff home where he lived his entire life under the loving care of his family. During that time he helped others with general labor, hay hauling, and landscaping.
Steven had a deep love for the outdoors and delighted in planning unexpected adventures. He stayed active through basketball and fishing, and his creativity shone brightly in his unique sense of style-reflected in his clothes, hair, home, and even his memorable 'rock bus.' A devoted son, Steven deeply cherished his time with his loving mother, Christa. Later in life, he found joy in fellowship with other seniors and faithfully attended First Baptist Church of Haskell. Steven's Christian faith remained strong; he encouraged others by sharing his beautiful singing voice, participating in Bible studies, and giving financially. His gentle nature, warm smile, and laughter revealed his kind heart and brought joy to all who knew him.
Steven is survived by his mother, Christa Slagle; brother Kurtis and wife Tracy Slagle; sister Sandy and husband Paul Jernigan; sister Elka Slagle and partner Ricky Denton; sisters-in-law Debbie Slagle and Shelly Slagle; along with a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Augusta Neumann; father, William Slagle; brothers, Eric and Ray Slagle; and nephews, Jordan and Jonathan Slagle.
