As a friend from Steve’s past I can truely say he was always loved and looked up to. The Simmons kids and the Wise kids lived one door down . We all came up together, and had lots of fun doing all the crazy things kids do! Steve was 8 years older than me and I thought he was just too cool. One day he agreed to drive me and Chuckie and Brian and probably a couple of other kids to the skating rink. I remember it so clearly because a song came on the radio and Steve reached over and turned it up real loud and he said this is a new song, and y’all mark my words it’s going to be a big hit. Well he was right, the city of New Orleans became a huge hit. So, he was also a predictor of good music. He was so many things, and all of them were good. God bless Nell And his entire beautiful family that was so lucky to have Steve in their life. Hope to see you on the other side Steve.
I always loved Steve's mischievous smile and his willingness to help. Most of all I loved his love for Nell and the rest of his family. He will be missed.
Steve and I grew up together one house apart. I have many fond memories. One in particular were the persimmon fights. I was always on his team and we were able to bombard the other kids with persimmons from a tree. That must be where he developed his strong left pitching arm. I remember catching lighting bugs with him and putting them in the jars. Steve was the protector of the neighborhood. Anytime anyone was getting picked on or bullied he was there to break it up. Steve was always laughing and telling jokes and a very positive active child.I will forever remember him. May he Rest In Peace. Dana (Wise) Luft
