Steven Roger Cherrington's Obituary
Colonel Steven Roger Cherrington, 55, of Bixby, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly on April 15, 2026. Born on July 21, 1970, in Charleston, West Virginia, Steve lived a life marked by service, strength, laughter, and unwavering love for his family.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 25 years, retiring as a Colonel. Throughout his distinguished military career, he served with honor in numerous leadership and aviation roles, including a pilot, commander, instructor, engineer, and strategic leader. He accumulated more than 1,400 flight hours and over 400 combat hours supporting operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Djibouti, and Haiti. His career reflected excellence, courage, intelligence, and dedication to something greater than himself.
While Steve's accomplishments were many, those who knew him best know his greatest pride was never his rank, it was his family.
On June 8, 1996, he married the love of his life, Lauryn, beginning a partnership filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Together they built a beautiful family that meant everything to him.
Steve was a proud and devoted father to Brayden Cherrington, Ashtyn Davis and husband Connor, and Avery Cherrington and boyfriend Drew Sawyer. He never missed a chance to brag on his kids, celebrate their accomplishments, or remind everyone in the room just how proud he was of them.
Steve was larger than life and truly the life of the party. He could light up any room with his humor, quick wit, and contagious personality. He loved going to the gun range, building firearms, four-wheeling, spending time at the lake, working on his Jeep, enjoying a good cigar, and simply having a good time wherever he was.
He also dearly loved his dogs, Odin and Freya, who were spoiled rotten and always right by his side.
He was also famously frugal. Steve kept a close eye on spending and did his best to keep Lauryn and the kids "financially disciplined" whether they asked for it or not. His legendary budgeting advice, selective generosity, and perfectly timed comments about unnecessary purchases will be remembered with smiles for years to come.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Lauryn; his children, Brayden, Ashtyn, and Avery; brothers Kevin Cherrington and wife Stacey of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Jeff Cherrington and wife DeWayna of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; parents-in-law Tommy and Lynda Lovegrove of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Tara Lovegrove Jackson and husband Ryan of Tulsa, OK; and several loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jon and Betty Cherrington, and Peggy and Ron Hall.
Steve served his country with honor, loved his family deeply, and lived with integrity. As scripture says, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
