Shirley Myrtle Stie's Obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Shirley Myrtle (Arrington) Stie, of Jenks, Oklahoma, who passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on October 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born and raised in Virginia and lived a full and meaningful life devoted to her family, faith, and education. She proudly served in the United States Air Force before earning her Bachelor's Degree in General Science and a Master's Degree from Radford University in Radford, Virginia.
For more than 30 years, Shirley dedicated her life to teaching, shaping young minds across both Oklahoma and Virginia. Her passion for education extended beyond the school year-she especially loved spending her summers teaching gifted students at Tulsa University.
Shirley was a faithful member of Beaver Street Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 95 in Jenks. A true educator at heart, her life centered around learning and raising her two sons.
Outside the classroom, Shirley was happiest outdoors. She was the enthusiastic "camp cook," loved singing in the church choir, and enjoyed playing Bridge with friends. She treasured every visit "back home" to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, where she grew up among a large and loving family of eleven brothers and sisters.
Shirley also shared a love of travel with her husband, exploring Alaska, Hawaii, Turkey, and Greece, where they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Frank Stie; and siblings; Harry Ferguson, Sally McGuire, Gladys Haywood, Elsie Arrington, Buddy Arrington, Carolyn Hodges, Jack Arrington, and George Ferguson.
She is survived by her sons, Joe Russ Stie and wife, Stephanie of Jenks, and Frank Alan Stie and wife, Kelly of Sapulpa; grandchildren, Brittany Stie-Dennis and husband, Austin Dennis of Sapulpa, Joe Thomas Stie and wife, Rachel, of Broken Arrow; Dylan Stie of Sapulpa; Taylor Stie of Tulsa; and Tanner Stie of Tulsa; and great-grandson, Layton Dennis of Sapulpa. She is also survived by Howard Ferguson of Snow Creek, Virginia; and Geneva Hodges of Rocky Mount, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews throughout the state of Virginia.
Shirley will be remembered for her kindness, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family and students. Her legacy of love and learning will continue to live on in all who knew her.
