Shirley Ann (Garoutte) Stine's Obituary
Shirley Stine Obituary
Shirley Ann Garoutte was born November 15, 1942 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to Leslie and Elsie (Metcalf) Garoutte. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Elsie and E.K. Lambert in Bixby. It was while in junior high that Shirley took an Oklahoma history class taught by Coach Glen Welch. One day while Coach stepped away from the room, Shirley slipped on a pair of football cleats and began a tap dance performed for the entire class. Her moves were a big hit until Coach stepped back into the room and Shirley was caught in the act! No doubt, she was the talk of the school for quite some time. During high school, Shirley played the bass clarinet in the band and it would be with the class of 1960 that she became a high school graduate.Upon graduation, Shirley moved to Arkansas where she lived for many years. Shirley was blessed with the gift of motherhood as she welcomed her son, Darren E. Mueller in 1969. Darren was Shirley's whole world and there was nothing that she enjoyed more than being a mom. Sadly, Darren was killed in a car wreck at the age of 18 and this tragedy was devastating to Shirley. Shirley's wish was for her cremated remains to be buried next to her son, Darren. However, surviving this loss would shape her to handle nearly anything. Shirley was married to Elra Stine and the couple made their home in Beggs, where they lived for nearly 20 years. Shortly after moving to Beggs, Elra's health declined. Without hesitation, Shirley courageously vowed to care for him. As his beloved wife and caregiver, she was dedicated to making the most of their time and life together. Shirley did all this without a complaint and more over with a smile on her face. Shirley will be remembered as a beautiful person, inside and out. Shirley was loved by everyone who knew her and will certainly be missed. Her time with us ended on September 22, 2018 in Tulsa. She was 75.She was preceded in death by her father, Leslie Garoutte; mother, Elsie (Metcalf) Lambert; step-father, E.K. Lambert; son, Darren Meuller, and step-son, Kevin Stine.
