A Celebration of Life ceremony honoring and remembering Sheila Ann Wheat will be held 1 PM Thursday, October 26, 2023 in the Rivercrest Chapel, 13329 S. Memorial Drive in Bixby. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Sheila passed away Friday evening, October 20, 2023 at her home in Jenks. She was 77 years old.
Born June 13, 1946, Sheila in Oklahoma, Sheila was the daughter of Raymond Marshall and Geraldine (O'Bryan) Rodgers. Sheila grew up in both Lawton and Cushing, Oklahoma.
Sheila was introduced to Dempsey Wheat on a blind date to the movie theatre. Dempsey fell in love with Sheila just after she wiped bar-b que sauce on his khaki pants. The couple married August 5, 1962 in Lawton.
Through the years, Sheila remained a dedicated member of River Oaks Christian Church. She enjoyed serving in the kitchen. Sheila was also a longtime cafeteria worker for the Central Campus of Jenks Public Schools. She loved the kids there who made her an apron upon her retirement.
Surviving family include her daughter, Kimberly Diaz and fiance, Terry Miller; her brother, Robert Rodgers and his wife, Andrea; sister, Jean Watkins; nieces, Rebecca Gray, Melissa Dobbins, and Pam Ming; her nephew, David Crabtree; long-time friend, Jimmy Dale Brierton; and numerous extended family and friends.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dempsey Wheat; and her sisters, Carolyn Sue and Dorothy Elaine.
