March 8, 1939-December 8, 2024
A service to remember and celebrate the life of Sharon Wheeler Cambridge will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, 1301 S. Boston Ave., Tulsa, OK 74119.
Sharon was born on March 8, 1939, in Moline, Illinois, and passed away on December 8, 2024, in Tulsa. She came to Oklahoma City at six weeks old with her mother, Vivian Lyon, and her older brother, Larry. She grew up in OKC and graduated in the first class of Northwest Classen High School in 1957. She attended Oklahoma City University for two years before accepting a position as a secretary at First National Bank. There, she met Joe Wheeler in the cafeteria lunch line. They were married on October 15, 1961, and had two children: Greg and Laura. They were married nine years when Joe was diagnosed with advanced stage cancer. Their lives changed overnight, and Sharon spent the next two years taking care of him at home. After Joe passed away in 1973, she and her children moved to southern California before returning to Oklahoma City in 1975. While living in California, Sharon discovered children's specialty stores. Her store, Somebody's Darling, was the first of its kind in Oklahoma City and she successfully ran it from 1976 to 1997. The store was her passion and she made many lifelong friends there. Sharon also had a small gardening business, an organizing business and spent several years working as the kitchen manager at Boston Avenue Church in Tulsa, from 2006 to 2019.
Sharon was an eternal optimist, always ready to face the new day with a smile. Her longtime email address was [email protected] and that described how she lived her life. She loved people and saw the good in everyone. She was generous to a fault and loved serving others. Wherever she lived, she made her "nest" and loved hosting anyone and everyone. She did daily devotions and was a strong believer in Jesus.
Sharon was preceded in by: her husband, Joe A. Wheeler and her mother, Vivian Lyon. She is survived by: daughter, Laura Hardin and husband, John of Tulsa; grandchildren: Allison Hardin and Stephanie Hardin of Tulsa, Ben Hardin and wife, Morgan of New York City.
