Sandra Marguerite Lofton's Obituary
Sandra Marguerite Lofton, 88 of Leonard, Oklahoma passed away March 24, 2025. She was a devoted Christian, loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Born on April 22, 1936, in Tahlequah, Marguerite was the daughter of Herman Valley and Carmen (Stinnett) Brewster. Her family moved frequently but she returned to Leonard, Oklahoma where she met the love of her life, Ray Lofton , at Leonard Baptist Church where they married in 1956. She went on to complete her Master's degree from Tulsa University, and a Ph.D. in Plant Ecology from Oklahoma State University..
Marguerite's professional journey was marked by diverse and significant roles. She ran the Mohawk Water Treatment Plant and the AB Jewel Water Plant for the City of Tulsa. In the 1980s, she served as Bixby's city manager and worked for Williams Brothers Engineering as a land reclamation specialist. Her career also included an adventurous year in Venezuela (1980-1981), working on pipeline projects and traveling extensively across the country.
She retired from the City of Tulsa in 2001, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated public service.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Marguerite found joy in gardening, flower cultivation, and birdwatching. She was known for her determination, intelligence, and insatiable curiosity.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Lofton, whom she met at the Leonard Church; her son, Dan Lofton; her foster daughter, Tammy; and Tammy's son, J.B. Lofton.
She is survived by her son, Adam Lofton, daughter-in-law, Sandi Lofton; granddaughters, Athena Jessica Lofton and Shelby Nicole Lofton; and two sisters, Vera York and Sharon Bedingfield.
A funeral ceremony honoring Marguerite will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, April 2, at the Leonard First Baptist Church. A private interment will follow at Floral Haven Cemetery.
Marguerite's life was a testament to lifelong learning, public service, unwavering love for her family and the world around her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
