Rodney Keith Bones' Obituary
Rodney Bones Obituary
Services to honor and celebrate the life of Rodney Keith Bones will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in the Chapel at South Tulsa Baptist Church. Rodney passed away after a long, 35 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease on Friday evening, August 26, 2022. He was 74.
Born November 15, 1947, Rodney was the second of four children to be welcomed by parents Donald Merrill and Omega ‘Prudy’ (Ortwein) Bones. Born and raised in Tulsa, Rodney graduated from Central High School in 1966. Following high school, he attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education and shortly thereafter began teaching math and science.
Rodney and Alice Tappmeyer began dating in the spring of 1974. It was a whirlwind romance and the two were soon married in the Baptist Student Union Chapel at the University of Tulsa on August 24, 1974. Following the birth of their first daughter, Rodney pursued his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, graduating in 1980. He established a private practice, Bones Chiropractic, where he enjoyed a rewarding career until a health diagnosis of Parkinson’s caused an untimely retirement in 1991. During these busy years the family grew by another daughter and two sons, making a family of six.
Throughout the years, Rodney enjoyed many activities. He liked to trout fish, especially with his father-in-law, Wilbur. He had a passion for old cars, car show rallies and even had a treasure of his own- a 1936 Plymouth Coupe that he named “Code Blue”. His love for cars started early. When newly married, Rodney would drag Alice to stock car races and although it was never her favorite pastime, her devotion to him would become evident from the very beginning and would only continue through the rest of their 48 years together. Sports was another favorite pastime for Rodney. He loved watching games and was an avid fan of KC Chiefs, KC Royals and all Oklahoma teams. He particularly enjoyed watching these games with his sons and sons-in-law. Rodney loved early mornings, crossword puzzles, and breakfast time with family - something he shared with his beloved mother, Prudy. He loved being surrounded with family and was a loving husband, father and Pappy.
Rodney was sharp, witty, strong, intelligent and feisty with a fantastic sense of humor and was a loyal friend. He never met a dog that didn’t become his instant friend or a milkshake that he didn’t savor. He loved old westerns, going to the movies with his wife, and making people smile with his jokes.
Rodney’s family takes great comfort today in knowing that he was saved, is at home with his Savior and is no longer suffering. He is survived by: his loving and devoted wife, Alice Bones; his four children: daughter Amanda Weiss and husband, Kevin; daughter Emily Freise and husband, John; son Whit Bones and wife Jameelah and son, Andrew Bones; grandchildren: Mackenzie and Camryn Weiss; Owen, Bennett and Stella Freise and Lewie and Jackie Bones; siblings: sister, Donna Waller and husband Bob; brothers: Patrick Bones and Mike Bones and wife Becky.
