Robert Nelson Pegues' Obituary
Robert "Bob" Nelson Pegues, age 91, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away February 28, 2026, at The Blake Memory Care Home in Tyler, Texas.
Bob was born January 23, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Mildred (Langford) Pegues and Marvin "Mac" Rice Pegues and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he loved to play tennis and trumpet. After graduating high school, Bob spent a year living in California playing trumpet and then returned home to attend Tulsa University for a year before serving his country in the United States Navy from 1955-1959 stationed in the Mediterranean. Some of his favorite memories were of his time in Italy and Spain playing trumpet in the Navy band.
In 1958, while home on leave from the Navy, Bob's cousin said to him "have I got a girl for you". George introduced him to a lovely young woman named Lousie "Lou" Bush and that's how Bob found the love of his life. Bob & Lou married October 25, 1958, just 12 days after Bob's beloved Dad died of heart failure at age 66. Bob was 23 and Lou was 20 when they married and the first year of their marriage was Bob's last year in the service. Their relationship began through letter writing and those letters fill an old suitcase and display how great a love they had.
After the Navy, Bob followed in his mother's footsteps and entered the hairdressing profession, managing one of his mother's hair salons in San Antonio, Texas and had his first-born son there. Then they moved back to Tulsa where Bob opened his own hair salon, Precision Cut, which he owned and operated for 40 years. Bob and Lou had three more children (all girls) and raised all four children in Bixby, Oklahoma. Lou was so fortunate to have her brother, Jim Bush, marry her best friend, Dee Ellis and the two couples and their children grew up very close, vacationing every Summer and Winter together. Bob loved carpentry and built their family home himself in Bixby where they lived for 35 years until Lou died at age 68. Bob was the greatest caregiver for Lou always asking if she needed anything and was right there by her side when she passed.
In addition to tennis and trumpet, Bob loved oil-painting, stained glass art, jewelry making, cooking, nutrition, and dancing.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Pegues, brother, Marvin Rice Pegues, Jr., sister-in-law, Carolyn Pegues, sister-in-law, Dee Bush, second wife, Jessie Enloe, son-in-law, Mark Harris, and grandson, Robert Allen Harris. He is survived by his close companion, Linda Brown, son, Robert James Pegues, daughter, Lisa Harris, daughter, Robyn Hamilton (Ty), daughter, Holly Temming (Ryan), brother-in-law, Jim Bush, nieces: Cathy Cox (Bill), Cindy McFadden (Mark), Carri Matheson (Brad), and Christy Pegues, nephew, Trevor Pegues, grandchildren: Kristy Keller, Samantha Harris, Bobby Harris, Andrew Hamilton, Luke Hamilton, Seth Hamilton, Oliver Temming, Harper Temming, and great grandchildren: Brody Keller, Zachary Gooding, Miles Harris, Allison Harris, and Hudson James Hamilton.
Bob was the kind of person that everybody loved. He was easy-going, patient, content, disciplined and one of the kindest souls you'll ever know.
Bob's graveside service will be held at 2 pm on March 14, 2026 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
