Born May 27, 1957, in Livermore, California, Rick was born to Fritz and Patricia (Scullion) Rohrer. Raised in his birth community, Rick attended St. Michael School through 8th grade and then graduated from Livermore High School. Destined for leadership roles, even at an early age, Rick took his first steps toward that end serving as an altar boy and as captain of the school crossing guard. Growing up, he spent most of his days with his lifelong best friend, George Mueller. Together, they did all they possibly could to raise cain and test the nuns’ patience. There are often two sides to a story and although Rick could be ornery, he was extremely smart and well read. Contributing to this cause, Rick spent quite a bit of time in the local library where he read encyclopedias and dictionaries. Because of that hobby, he would frequently be referred to as “Webster”.
Having a special affinity for history and historical events, it was truly remarkable his ability to retain and recall this type of information. A fond memory Rick cherished, from his childhood, was turning on their new television as astronauts landed on the moon and took those first steps. Beyond his studies, he also excelled at sports, especially football. Unfortunately, wrecked knees would end “Bull’s” football career too soon.
Rick’s fondest memories were spending time at the lake with the family every chance they could get. He was an avid water skier and enjoyed boating, snow skiing, riding dirt bikes, and fast cars. Growing up in northern California, he was a fan of any San Francisco Bay area professional or college sports team!
Also blessed to have a positive influence from his stepfather, Fred Noyes, Jr., Rick would develop a love of hunting, shaped by the numerous outings to N3 Ranch, a 50,000-acre ranch in the Livermore hills where the guys, and their hunting dogs, would all spent countless hours hunting deer, duck, and quail.
Receiving his associates in Business Administration from Chabot College, it was Rick’s desire to then pursue a career in pharmacy. In fact, his first job was with a pharmacy in high school, and he became quite knowledgeable in this field. It was through these connections that he landed his first sales job with McKesson Drug. It became quickly apparent that Rick was gifted in this arena. Additional experience would prove that he not only had great sales skills, but that he also had a knack for helping companies strategize, grow, and improve.
Rick continued his sales career and joined Hilti, Inc as a territory sales representative in San Francisco area. After several promotions Rick took the leap of faith to move to Tulsa, Oklahoma from California in January of 1996. In tow, on the drive out, was his ski boat and riding shotgun was his rottweiler, “Raider”. As if the 20-plus hour trip, and dog slobber, wasn’t enough, he pulled into Tulsa just before a major ice storm hit. As he would tell the story, he was just about ready to turn around and head back to California, but fortunately, for those who would come to know him here, he stayed!
In Tulsa, Rick would continue growing his career with Hilti and eventually become a member of their executive management team through 2001. After Hilti, Rick accepted an Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing role with Engius – a concrete construction products company. He would stay in that position for a few years before finding employment with FW Murphy and eventually moving into the role of General Manager, Oil and Gas Sales through 2018.
In 2003, Rick married the love of his life Christy, in the Chapel at the Ponderosa Ranch in Lake Tahoe, Nevada which was the set for the old western series, Bonanza. These two loved spending time together every chance they would get when not working and continued the tradition of relaxing and fishing at the lake, going to the movies or going out for a drive in the car or on motorcycles.
Rick has been described as an overcomer, a great storyteller, strong, yet kindhearted, caring, a thinker and strategizer, intelligent, and a truly incredible person. There is no doubt that this amazing man will be deeply missed by those family and friends that he leaves to carry on his legacy.
Rick is survived by: his loving wife, Christy Graybill-Rohrer and their four-legged child, Gilly (an English Pointer). He is also survived by his stepbrother, Fred John Noyes; stepsister, Robyn Farwell; brother, Mike Rohrer; and nieces and nephews. Rick was also very proud to be the Godfather of Karl Mueller and Duncan Galbraith.
He was preceded in death by: his parents: father, Fritz Rohrer; mother, Patricia Noyes and stepfather, Fred Noyes, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his stepsister, Diane Dodds.
