Randy Leon Hughes' Obituary
Randy Leon Hughes, 71, passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2026, at his home in Bixby, Oklahoma.
Randy was born in Hobart, Oklahoma on August 8, 1954, to Harold and Leona (Bullock) Hughes. As the son of a school superintendent, Randy spent his childhood living in several Oklahoma communities. He was the youngest of five siblings and graduated from Schulter High School, where he was known for his athletic ability-particularly his exceptional talent in baseball. Sports were a lifelong passion, and his competitive spirit and natural athleticism followed him well beyond his school years.
Randy attended Oklahoma State University, earning a degree in education. Early in his career, he taught high school math and science in Kiefer, Oklahoma, before answering a calling to serve and protect. He joined the Tulsa Police Department, where he steadily advanced through the ranks, working in nearly every division during his distinguished career. In 2005, Randy was selected to attend the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Randy retired in 2013 as a Captain, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, dedication, and respect among his colleagues. Following his retirement from TPD, Randy accepted a security position with the U.S. Marshalls office in Tulsa where he remained employed until 2018.
While attending college, Randy met Brenda at a dormitory party, though life took them in different directions for a time. Years later, they reconnected through an intramural softball league and began dating in 1998. They were married in 1999 and welcomed their son, Connor, in 2000-one of Randy's greatest joys.
Randy was known for his thriftiness and his love of a good deal, his quick wit, and his infectious sense of humor. He loved to sing, often making up his own lyrics, and was rarely seen without a smile. Randy enjoyed attending concerts, festivals, and traveling the world. Truly a happy-go-lucky spirit, Randy brought laughter and warmth wherever he went.
In retirement, Randy remained active and engaged, participating in numerous organizations with fellow retired officers. He loved playing golf, pickleball, men's softball, and tennis, excelling in every athletic pursuit he took on-just as he had throughout his life.
Randy is survived by his beloved family: Brenda Hughes; his son, Connor Hughes; his brother, Alan Hughes; and his sister, Joan; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Leona Hughes, and his brothers, Gale and Ronald Hughes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Rivercrest Chapel.
