Born April 19, 1925 in St. John, Kansas, Phyllis Boyd was the daughter of Fred and Grace (Snell) Boyd. Phyllis lived in St. John her entire childhood where she attended and graduated from high school in 1943. Phyllis' family lived on a farm and was just eight years old when her father passed away. Phyllis and her six siblings were then tasked with taking an even more active role in helping around the house and accomplishing chores on the farm. When Phyllis was a teenager, she had a job ironing for others. Once she was able to drive, she would also pick other children up from school and deliver them home. It was during wheat harvest one summer when a strong, young man named Lloyd Clements came to St. John from Missouri to help Phyllis's brothers on the farm. Phyllis would meet that handsome young man and their meeting would spark the beginning of a sweet courtship. Serving in the U.S. Army, Lloyd would soon be stationed in England and Scotland. Being so in love with Phyllis and far from home, he proposed to Phyllis by a mailed letter! Of course, she replied with a YES! Upon Lloyd being honorably discharged, the two were married on September 8, 1946 in a St. John wedding ceremony. Phyllis and Lloyd then attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, together, where they received special training for the ministry. She was thrilled to have found a partner to share her passion for the Lord with as she fulfilled her lifelong dream of being a minister's wife. This dream began when Phyllis was nine years old as she gave her heart to the Lord at the St. John Assembly of God. To begin their ministry they moved to Crawfordsville, IN where they served the Lord and welcomed their two sons, Gary and Stephen. While in Crawfordsville, the church would hold street meetings where Phyllis would play her accordion and sing.The family felt God calling them for a change and they moved to Eudora, KS. Here, they welcomed their baby girl, Cheryl. Phyllis served in many capacities at the church and loved her work very much. She organized Vacation Bible School, led Sunday School and visited their church members. Along with her gift of singing and playing the accordion, she also played the piano and organ. The Clements' pastored several churches in Kansas including: Atchison, Galena, Girard, Independence, Ft. Scott and Medicine Lodge. Eventually Phyllis and Lloyd retired and made their home in Coffeyville, KS. They remained active in church, sometimes even filling in for the pastor. When not busy with church, they enjoyed gardening and going on walks together. Phyllis continued to visit church members at the nursing home and hospital. In 2002, the couple moved to Bixby to be near family. Lloyd passed away in 2013 after sharing more than 67 years of life together.Through the years, the Lord became more precious to Phyllis and prayer an even more integral part of her life. Through her faithfulness and God's grace, Phyllis was able to observe God's mighty power at work in many ways and she was also a witness to many answered prayers. Her daily prayer was that every family member and every grandchild have a definite experience with God. A desire to be a blessing to everyone, this loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother certainly lived up to her wish. Her absence will be felt by those family members who survive, but her legacy will also live on through them. Those who survive include: her children: Gary Clements and wife, Tresa of Bixby, Stephen Clements and wife, Deborah of Moore, and Cheryl Doudna and husband, Tom of Grand Blanc, MI; seven grandchildren, Darin Clements, Michelle Frank, Amy Churchill, Gregory and Benjamin Clements, Scott and Brian Doudna; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
