Visitation for Phillip “Phil” Edwin Gross will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday at the Rivercrest Chapel andEvent Center in Bixby. A private interment will be held in Muskogee at the Memorial Park Cemetery.Phil's life here on earth ended January 27, 2021 in Tulsa. He was 79 years old.The son of Clyde Clinton and Jewell (Wallace) Gross, Phil was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on May 21,1941. He grew up in southern Muskogee County where he became a true outdoorsman at an early age.Phil looked forward to the school bell ringing every day so he could go fishing. He also enjoyed huntingrabbits in the snow, as well as squirrels every fall. He graduated from high school in Oktaha.Phil met Edith Erwin at a restaurant in Sallisaw where she was employed as a waitress. She was theprettiest girl he had ever seen! Phil made it a point to show up just in time for her shift to begin. Thecouple would marry May 27, 1965 at the Methodist Church in Oktaha. Phil gained employment withOklahoma Gas & Electric where he worked for almost 30 years. Phil and Edith moved to Muskogeewhere they raised their children, Clint and Tina, grandson Ethan.Fishing remained Phil’s favorite thing to do throughout his lifetime. He could spot a pond before anyonecould actually see it, and every time he would pass a pond while driving down the road he would say, “Iwonder if they let people fish there?” Phil would catch and expertly prepare the Crappie while Edithwould cook them to the highest standards. Many friends waited, hoping to receive their usual packageof fish!Following retirement from the utility company, where Phil had obtained the title of Shift Supervisor, hemet Joe Foster while fishing from a dock on Lake Ft. Gibson. Joe immediately invited him to work atthe Foster-Petering Funeral Home. Phil accepted the offer and greatly enjoyed his work at the family’sfuneral home and continued there for the next 27 years during many changes.Phil faithfully attended Eastland Baptist Church for many years. The family recently made Broken Arrowtheir home.Surviving family members include his wife Edith Gross; his son, Clint Gross, daughter, Tina Gross, and hisgrandson, Ethan David Gross, all of Broken Arrow.
