A memorial service honoring the life of Patrick Wright Thornburgh will be held 10 AM Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the Calvary Cemetery Chapel. Interment with military honors at the graveside will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Patrick passed away June 11, 2020 in Catoosa at the age of 86.Born in Okmulgee on June 21, 1933, Patrick was the son of Mac Bernard and Helen Maude (McMahon) Thornburgh. He was an “Okie” through and through. Patrick was raised in an Irish Catholic family and attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School in Okmulgee. He graduated from Okmulgee High School with the Class of 1950. Patrick enlisted in the United States Navy immediately following high school. He discovered true excitement in life when he received his draft notice while already aboard the U.S.S. Salerno Bay. Patrick loved travelling the world for four years while honorably serving his country. Patrick met Marsha Devlin while giving a speech at a religious conference. The two were truly meant for each other and married at the Catholic church in Bartlesville in 1982. Following his military service, Patrick accepted a mechanic’s position with McDonnell Douglas. He would eventually pursue a long-term career with the United States Postal Service. Upon retirement, Patrick worked for a postal service contractor for several years. He also worked for Wal-Mart stocking shelves and since he was so good with numbers, management put him to work in the accounting offices. A devout Catholic, Patrick always had a servant’s heart. He was non-bias, polite, and loved by all who knew him. Patrick was a member of several local parishes including Church of the Madeline, St. Thomas Moore, and Christ the King. He loved Classical Music and spent many years serving in the Knights of Columbus. Surviving family include his son, Kenneth Thornburgh; grandchildren: Cierra, Michaela, and Connor; his great-grandchildren, Andrew Douglas Norton and Archer Wright Thornburgh; and his sister, Kathleen Ann Wise.Patrick was preceded in death by parents, and his wife, Marsha.
