Services to honor and remember the life of Norma Wilkerson will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Antioch. A Celebration of Life will follow in Norman, Oklahoma at the Riverwind Casino Mezzanine from 2-6 p.m. Food and drinks will be provided. Born November 22, 1947 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Norma was the daughter of Ethel (Blackwell) and Raymond Brooksher. She, along with her four siblings, were reared in Maysville where they farmed and raised racehorses. Norma graduated from Maysville High School in 1965, then proceeded to the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1972. She would graduate with a degree in Education in 1972. Norma returned to Oklahoma, settling in Oklahoma City. She began working for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) where she conducted Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) investigations and was active in a mentoring program. Norma's role as an investigator required much time traveling, working on various cases. She had a huge positive impact on those she advocated for during her career. Norma was the proud mother of her son, Shannon. He recalls traveling the country with his mom on her working adventures. Those adventures would end in 2005 as she retired. To keep herself busy after retirement, Norma worked at the Chickasaw Casino in Newcastle. While not on the clock, Norma continued the family tradition of racing horses. While never reaching the height of success of her father, Norma did manage to have success of her own as an owner in the horse racing industry. After retiring from horse racing, she could still be found at the casino having a great time! She also enjoyed watching investigative shows. Above all, Norma loved her family. Being a grandma to Warren and Ben was a role she took very seriously. She made great efforts to be present for all the boys' sporting events and drama performances. They always looked forward to seeing their Grandma and talking her into a special trip to Best Buy, to which she conceded every time! Norma passed away June 27, 2019 in Bixby. She was 71. Those she leaves to cherish her memory are: son, Shannon Wilkerson and wife, Angie; grandsons, Warren and Benjamin Wilkerson brother, Wesley Brooksher and a multitude of other family members.
