Neula Faye Lair Sewell's Obituary
Neula Sewell Obituary
Services to honor and remember the life of Neula Faye Lair Sewell will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2019 in the River Crest Chapel. Family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Bixby Funeral Service. Neula passed away on Saturday in Broken Arrow. She was 89. Born November 7, 1929 in Boswell, Oklahoma, Neula Faye was the daughter of Noah Ruben and Maud (Burkett) Davidson. Raised in her birth community, Neula was one of eleven siblings in a blended family. Being part of such a large family, quite possibly, brought about the qualities that describe Neula: resourceful, determined, strong, strict and if she set her mind to something, she was certain to accomplish it. A mother of two, Neula nurtured her daughters: Glenda and Sharon as they grew to become strong and independent women themselves. All women of faith, Neula was sure to have her girls in church every time the doors were open and Neula remained a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church, in Bixby, throughout her lifetime. Determined to support her daughters, Neula attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University where she attained both her Bacherlor's and Master's in education. She then took a job in Bixby to be closer to other siblings located in the Tulsa area. Ms. Lair or, later on, Mrs. Sewell impacted numerous students during her career with Bixby Public Schools. She retired after 27 years of service. Finding love, Neula said "I do" to Glyn Sewell on Christmas Eve in 1976 in Bixby. The two celebrated 38 years of marriage before Glyn passed away. Quite the role models for treating someone with love and respect, you never saw the two together without Glyn holding Neula's hand. Neula and Glyn were known to be "home bodies". Through the years, they enjoyed gardening and tending to their yard. However, don't be fooled - the two loved going out to eat! They had their favorite spots, such as: Billy Ray's and Olive Garden where they knew all the staff and all the staff knew them!A cute fact is that Neula never had a credit card! In fact, she had trouble later in life getting a few things accomplished because she didn't have a credit rating. Neula determined that the little bit of trouble she went through was worth it because, she truly believed that if anything was worth having - it she be bought with cash! This loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend will be missed by those she leaves to carry on her legacy. Those surviving include: daughters: Glenda (Lair) Thyssen of Bartlesville, OK; Sharon (Lair) Chapman and husband, Rick of Protem, MO; step-children: Gary Sewell, Allen Sewell and Pamela Jones of Oologah, OK; grandchildren: Jennifer Lawmaster of Tulsa, Adam Lawmaster and wife, April of Pryor and Samuel Darden of Ava, MO; step-grandchildren: Mike Sewell and April Sewell; great-grandchildren: Kaydan Lawmaster, Marcus Lawmaster, Cierra Henderson and Destinee Lawson; sister: Lela Maye Vaughn of Texas; brother-in-law: David Sewell and wife, Linda of Michigan and sister-in-law: Thelma Hartz of California.
