Nancy Sue Landis' Obituary
Nancy Sue Landis was born on March 25, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, to Roy Carlin and Virginia (Sconce) Carlin. She was raised in Topeka, where she attended school and graduated from high school.
While in Topeka, Nancy met a young man named James Edward Landis at a church event. The two were married in November of 1964. James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, a career that allowed the couple to travel extensively. During their marriage, they lived in eight different states and two foreign countries, all while raising their three children: Chris, Michael, and Caroline. When James was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base, the Landis family settled in Moore, Oklahoma. Nancy and James later divorced in 1984.
Nancy was a hardworking and dedicated woman who balanced raising her children while maintaining a strong work ethic. Over the years, she held a wide variety of positions, including work with the U.S. Mail Service, the U.S. Air Force, ownership of a flower shop and a food truck, and serving as a department manager at Walmart, where she ultimately retired.
In her spare time, Nancy was a passionate crafter and always had multiple projects in the works. She found joy in gardening, flowers, birdwatching, and spending time in nature. One of her greatest loves was dancing, which led her to meet Ronald Saylors at a dance hosted by Al-Anon at Tri-City. The two later married in December of 1987. Ron sadly preceded her in death in 1991.
Nancy was also an enthusiastic sports fan, proudly cheering for the Oklahoma Sooners and the Bixby Spartans.
Above all else, Nancy cherished time spent with her grandchildren and loved watching them grow and excel in their activities. She was actively involved in her church family at Battle Creek and enjoyed traveling with her church group, including memorable trips to Egypt and Alaska.
Witty, strong-willed, feisty, yet incredibly sweet and kind to everyone she met, Nancy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Nancy is survived by her children, Caroline Nichols and husband James Nichols III, Chris Landis, and Michael Landis and wife, Dawn; grandchildren, James Edward Nichols IV and wife Baylee, Carissa Nichols, Christopher Clark Landis and wife Sabrina, Paulina Castillo, Monica Kerekach, Analysia Kerekach, Juliana Landis, Billy Smallwood, Christopher Davis, and Bobby Smallwood; seven great-grandchildren; and her brother, James Carlin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Saylors; former husband, James Landis; her parents, Roy and Virginia Carlin; and her aunts, Leona Sherman and Bernice Carlin.
