Services to honor and celebrate the life of Mike McKissack will be 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in the RiverCrest Chapel at Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service. Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. also at RiverCrest. Mike passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022. He was 73.
Michuel Paul “Mike” McKissack was born October 16, 1948, in McAlester, Oklahoma. He was the son of Paul and Nan (Talley) McKissack. The McKissack family would make a move to Bixby, Oklahoma when Mike entered the second grade. He would then complete his education at Bixby Public Schools and was a member of the Senior Class of 1966. While in high school, he would enjoy playing football and even wrestled for the Spartans.
Out of high school, Mike would work for Big Daddy Don Garlits, the Godfather of Drag Racing. He then found employment with Mid-Continent Concrete Company where he met co-worker, Linda Lomon. The two certainly hit it off. They would marry in April of 1979 at the Methodist Church in Bixby and would raise their boys in the Bixby/Broken Arrow area.
Having a long career with Anheuser-Busch/Budweiser Company, Mike began working for the company in 1984. He would retire 32 years later, in 2016, having numerous roles throughout the years. Mostly, he worked as a warehouse technician and supervisor, but enjoyed driving a Freightliner and working the nigh shifts as he often said there was no one to bother him!
When he was not at work, Mike could be found supporting his sons’ extracurricular activities. He would coach and holler at baseball games – and may have even been escorted out a time or three when things were not going well. He was also sure to support Mark with his Special Olympics activities.
Other things that brough Mike enjoyment included fishing, going to casinos – especially to Las Vegas and spending time with his family. His two granddaughters certainly had him wrapped around their little fingers!
Honest to a fault, hardnosed, but in all actuality a bit of a softie, good with adjectives, a good friend to people he thought were worthy, and, at times, a man with a bit of a temper – all of these things help to describe Mike. He was also loving and devoted to his wife, children, and granddaughters. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. Mike passed from this life on Saturday, August 27, 2022. He was 73.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Linda; his sons: Brian, Mark, and Matt and his wife, Katelyn; his granddaughters: Remi and Scout; his sister, Jan Ham and her husband, Dana; his dog and great companion, Gus and by numerous cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by: his parents and a son, Jason.
