Michael Johnson Obituary
A funeral ceremony honoring and remembering the life of Michael Eugene Johnson, Sr. will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, August 5, in the Rivercrest Chapel. Burial will be held at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
Mike was born September 5, 1945, in Tulsa. He was the son of Spurgeon Johnson and Marjorie Hacker. Mike passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021, at his Bixby residence. He was 75.
Mike graduated from Central High School in Tulsa with the Class of 1963. Shortly after, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard at the age of 17 with his parent’s permission, where he served from 1963 – 1969 during the Vietnam Conflict. In the years following his service, Mike began building his own life by learning and perfecting trades and skills that would later define him. He was recognized among his peers as a master carpenter who could build anything, an automotive genius who restored classic cars, built custom motorcycles, and even customized conversion vans of the 70’s and 80’s.
In 1980 Mike joined the U.S. Navy, specifically the Naval Construction Battalion better known as the “Seabees", where he proudly served another 25 years, and established lifelong friendships with his brothers in arms.
Although Mike had a deep love for his country, his greatest pursuit of love is when he married his wife Kellie on March 2nd, 1985. Not long after they discovered they were expecting their first son Michael, and six years later their second son, Christopher. Mike was a proud father, but an even more proud Papa after the arrival of his first grandchild in 2012.
Mike was the most kind and loving friend, husband, father, and grandfather his family could have ever asked for. He was always willing to extend a helping hand, he never said no to anyone, and would go above and beyond to teach and invest in the people around him. He was truly a servant to society. He will not soon be forgotten by a host of family and friends who loved him.
Surviving family members include his loving wife, Kellie Johnson; his two sons, Michael Johnson Jr. and wife, Janine and their children, Austin, Ethan, and Madilyn; Christopher Johnson and his son, Silas; brother, Paul Hacker and wife, Sheilah; and his sister, Jan Ruyle and her husband, Mark. Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
