Melody Jane Vowell's Obituary
Melody Jane Vowell, 77, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, August 30, 2025, at her south Tulsa residence.
Born on March 14, 1948, in Tulsa, Melody was the beloved daughter of John Paul and Geneva N. (Lewis) Ewing. She graduated from Will Rogers High School with the Class of 1965.
Melody dedicated 25 years of her professional life to Saint Francis Hospital, where she served as a section manager and staffing secretary. Her outgoing and friendly nature made her a valued colleague and friend to many throughout her career.
In a charming turn of fate, Melody met her future husband Ed when friends set them up at the Tiffany Bowl in east Tulsa. Their love story led to marriage on June 2, 1973, in Tulsa, beginning a beautiful partnership that lasted over five decades.
Melody had a creative spirit and enjoyed arts and crafts, finding particular joy in making photo books that captured precious family memories. Those who knew her would describe her as very outgoing and generous-qualities that drew people to her and made lasting impressions on everyone she met.
For the past few years, Melody and Ed regularly attended Riverview Baptist Church, where they participated in the Adult 2 Sunday School Class and found fellowship and spiritual growth within the community.
Melody is survived by her devoted husband, Ed Vowell; her daughter, Brandy Vowell Freeman and her husband Brett; three cherished grandchildren: Phoenix(15), Edison(13), and Jantzen(9).
Immediate family members are her sister, Paula; brothers Jim and Lyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Paul and Geneva N. Ewing, and her brother Jack.
A service to honor Melody's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 5, in the Rivercrest Chapel, where family and friends will gather to celebrate a woman whose outgoing spirit, kindness, and generous heart touched so many lives.
Melody's legacy lives on through the love she shared, the memories she carefully preserved, and the warm, welcoming spirit that made everyone feel like family.
