Maudie Ernestine Evans' Obituary
Maudie Ernestine Evans passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2024, at her home in Jenks, Oklahoma. She was 85 years old.
Ernestine was born on April 27, 1939, in Arkansas, the cherished daughter of Jeff and Lydia (Guynn) Sain. Along with her four sisters, Ernestine and her parents relocated to the Jenks area when she was a young girl. She grew up on South Lewis Avenue, attended Jenks Public Schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, and was a proud member of the Trojan Band, playing the clarinet.
Through mutual friends, Ernestine met Willis Evans, a Glenpool native, and the two fell in love. Their union was blessed with three children-Mark, Bryan, and Cindy. The family resided in Jenks, where Ernestine dedicated herself completely to raising her children. For 18 years, she faithfully drove them to school from the countryside, ensuring they never missed a moment. She was deeply involved in their lives, attending countless activities, sporting events, and band performances.
Ernestine successfully owned and operated Evans Upholstery and Drapery for many years. A talented and devoted homemaker, Ernestine was renowned for her culinary skills, and also had a green thumb as a long-time member of the Jenks Gardening Club and the OSU Extension Gardening Association. Her passion for gardening was matched by her love for the British Royal Family, and she often served as Treasurer and Secretary in her gardening circles.
Ernestine was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Jenks, where her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a strong Christian woman, unwavering in her belief that Heaven was a beautiful promise awaiting her. She loved her church family dearly, especially her Sunday School Class, and looked forward to their weekly roadtrips and lunches.
Known for her generosity, Ernestine never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion. Even in retirement, she remained busy and thoughtful, always finding ways to give to others. She had a knack for connecting with people and could hold a conversation with anyone, leaving a lasting impression with her warmth and kindness.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Evans; her parents Jeff & Lydia Sain; her son, Bryan Evans; her grandson, Andrew Kerr; and her sisters, Imogene, Velma, Betty Jo, and Mary Dean.
She leaves behind a legacy of love in the lives of her surviving family: her son, Mark Evans; her daughter, Cindy Kerr; her grandchildren, Kristen Colbert and her husband Austin, Brett Evans, and Danielle Evans; and several great-grandchildren, including Ethan and Alexander Colbert.
Ernestine's life was a testament to faith, family, and service. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral ceremony honoring the life of Maudie Ernestine Evans will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 7, 2024 in the Jenks First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Bixby Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8 PM Monday evening in the Parlor of Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service.
