Born July 5, 1943, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Maryjane was the daughter of Herbert and Lucile Geiger. She was also welcomed by older brothers Charles and Richard. The Geiger’s were a close-knit family who enjoyed embarking on adventures and travel whenever possible. It was certainly evident, by their interactions, that they more than enjoyed each other’s company. When gatherings took place, plenty of joking ensued amongst these siblings. Those memories of times shared, and laughter in the air, are a source of comfort and encouragement today.
Raised in her birth community, Maryjane would attend Tulsa schools where she became a graduate of Central High School. She furthered her education by attending Northeastern State University (NSU). There, she majored in Education and, at the same time, had the fortune of meeting a Mr. Donald Matlock. This couple would marry August 14, 1970, and eventually settled in Bixby, Oklahoma where they raised their son, Jay.
Maryjane worked numerous years in public education. She retired as a Kindergarten teacher at Liberty Public Schools where she impacted numerous children and gained many wonderful ‘teacher’ friends. These friends became known as ‘the girls’ and ‘the girls’ enjoyed taking trips, going out to eat, and of course talking! In addition to being a great friend, Maryjane was a wonderful mother and was certainly Jay’s number one fan. She was sure to make him feel special and would not hesitate to get out in the yard with him and play sports or any other activity their imaginations could dream up!
Described as loyal and giving, Maryjane loved people and she loved her dogs. There is no doubt that her presence will be greatly missed. Those she leaves to carry on her legacy include: son, Jay Matlock and wife, Chandra and their son, Zayden; step-daughter, Lisa Newell and her children: Jeffrey and Lauren and by a nephew, Greg Geiger.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her brothers and by her husband, Don.
