I met MaryLou when I was her usher for the Tulsa Drillers. She had season tickets for years at the previous ballpark at the Fairgrounds, but this was at the beginning of ONEOK Field’s second season. She loved baseball and telling stories about her life, family, occupations, and knowing Mickey Mantle “before he was Mickey Mantle” (and becoming famous. She knew him when they were children). She always had a smile, a laugh and loved being around baseball, family and friends, both new and longtime friends. It was an honor to check up on her on the rare times she came to a game alone, but she knew she was safe amongst her baseball family. I will forever remember her lsugh, her walk up the stairs after the game (she was much quicker after her hip surgery—I had to hurry to keep up with her!), her kind words and her joy for life. She is already missed, but will never be forgotten. Her and her family welcomed me into their lives as friends and we will always remain friends, no matter where we are.
