Leota Charlynn Violett's Obituary
Leota Charlynn Violett passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, November 23, 2025, at her residence in Tulsa. She was surrounded by her loving family. Leota was 91 years old.
Born April 11, 1934, in Ada, Oklahoma, Leota was the daughter of James Arthur and Jane Louise (Bigger) Elliott. She attended school in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. During her high school years, she played saxophone in the marching band, an early reflection of her creative spirit and dedication.
Leota earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from East Central University and later pursued her Master's degree in Education from San Marcos, Texas. She met Theodore Willis Violett, a young man from Bowlegs, Oklahoma, and on August 18, 1955, they embarked on a lifelong journey together. Leota devoted herself to teaching first grade in Oklahoma City while her husband completed medical school at the University of Oklahoma. Leota was supportive and selfless in nature throughout her life especially for family.
Leota and Ted loved to travel; Leota's favorite trips were the cruises they took to Hawaii and Alaska. They also enjoyed dining out, the theater, and the quiet evenings at home watching the Johnny Carson Show. Her hobbies brought her great satisfaction: quilting, needlepoint, and knitting were lifelong passions. She owned and operated a needlepoint store called "Violett's" in Oklahoma City. She was also an active member of Rotary Annes and Book Club, and she participated in Bible studies and volunteer activities at Village Baptist Church. Leota was a devoted teacher, wife, mother and grandmother.
Leota is survived by her children: Charlynn Violett and son-in-law Randy Smith, Jenee Violett, and Tim Violett and daughter-in-law Tammy Violett; her sister-in-law, Alverna Violett; her grandchildren Tyler and Ben Violett, Devon McLeod, Erin McLeod and her husband Robert Price, and Christopher and Zachary Violett; her great-grandsons: Wyatt Price, Jensen Violett, and Casey Violett; her great-granddaughter: Kinley Violett.
Leota was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ted, her parents, and her siblings Shirley Elliott and James Elliott.
A funeral ceremony honoring Leota's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 5, 2025, in the Rivercrest Chapel. Viewing will begin at 9:00 AM prior to the ceremony. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City.
