Services to honor and celebrate the life of Lee Oliver will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2020 at RiverCrest Chapel & Event Center, 13329 S. Memorial Drive, Bixby, OK. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, 220 N. Hwy 99, Cushing, OK. Lee passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. He was 99.
The firstborn to George and Leona Oliver, Lee was born July 21, 1921 in Byars, Oklahoma. A graduate of Oilton High School, Lee excelled in scholastics and baseball. Shortly after graduation, he and Eleanor Wright, of Drumright, were married in Stroud, OK during wartime.
After completion of a welding course, Lee worked in the shipyards in Beaumont, Texas. Assuming he would soon be drafted, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific. Following the war, he moved to Drumright where he was a service station owner and operator for 35 years. During that time, he serviced many of the oilfield trucking companies in the area (a Goodrich executive once told him he was the largest tire dealer between Tulsa and Oklahoma City). After selling the business, he and his wife moved to Sapulpa; they devoted their time to the ministry and to traveling. Eleanor, after a long battle, succumbed to cancer.
Lee was remarried to Doris Fisher and moved to Tulsa where he was active in Beams of Light Church. At the church, Lee was a member of the worship team, (he was an excellent guitarist), directed the choir for a time, and taught the senior Bible class.
He had successes in many areas (a sister once said that everything seemed to come so easy for him): a business man, musician (a member of the Western Swing Hall of Fame), a fisherman (mounted two largemouth bass each of which weighed 9 plus pounds), a grower of excellent strawberries, a craftsman (in high school his end table won first prize).
Lee is survived by his second wife, Doris; a son, Chester of Sand Springs; a daughter, Linda Cooper of Tulsa; a sister, Chris Minor of Enid; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Preceding him in death are his first wife, Eleanor; a son, David; a sister Dorotha Yeager, a sister Lois Shelly.
