Lawrence "Larry" Craig Powers' Obituary
Lawrence (Larry) Craig Powers was born on August 13, 1938 to Clinton Bert Sr. and Dorothy Elizabeth (Peltier) Powers in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He entered into eternity March 5,2025 at the age of 86.
Larry grew up on a farm where he loved to ride horses, learned to milk cows, and had quite the childhood business experience raising turkeys with his mom. He graduated from Ardmore High School in 1957 and attended OSU. There he met and married Sandra Sue Sampson. After graduation, Larry started his career in sales, selling both industrial and medical laboratory equipment. During this time they had 3 sons, Christopher, Lincoln, and Benjamin.
In 1979 Larry was transferred to Tulsa with CMS to supervise the laboratory installation at the City of Faith. Shorty after the family moved here, Larry lost his beloved Sandy to cancer.
Later he met Sharon Kaye Hickman, who also worked at CMS in sales and loved to play golf. They were married and had the youngest son, James Matthew (Matt). Larry said God was good in giving him all boys because he wouldn't have any idea how to raise a girl.
He loved telling jokes, reading, music, golfing, sailing, boating, floating the river, tailgating with all our OSU friends and watching Dallas Cowboy football. He also loved building, and competing with our neighbor to see who could have the best yard. But most of all, he enjoyed anything he could do with his kids, grandkids, and his dog. He grew up in the Presbyterian Church in Ardmore and then attended St. James Presbyterian Church in Jenks for over 30 years. He enjoyed being active in the church leadership, choir, and mission work. Along with 4 other members, he was one of the MASS Brothers.
Larry is preceded in death by his first wife, Sandy; his 3-month-old son, Lincoln; his older brother, Bert Jr. and wife Marianna; and his parents, Bert Sr. and Dororthy Powers. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 43 years; his sons, Chris (Jane) of Orange Beach, FL, Ben (Kristyna) of Condon, MT, and Matt (Chizuru) of West Hartford, CT; grandchildren, Sara (TJ) Magar of Edmond, OK, John (Devon) Powers of Aurora, CO, Addie Powers of Hollywood, FL, Zack Powers of Tulsa, Remy and Kiara Powers of West Hartford, Kaity Carter of Tulsa and Austin Carter (US Airforce); one great granddaughter, Margo Magar; and his younger brother, David (Cynthia) Powers of Ardmore, OK .
We are thankful Larry accepted the gift of salvation so freely offered by the Grace of God. His favorite hymn was “How Great Thou Art”. Someday I hope to hear his beautiful deep voice singing in God’s Heavenly choir.
His Celebration of Life will be April 2nd at 10:00am in the RiverCrest Reception Center next door to Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service and Crematory, 13329 S. Memorial Dr., Bixby, OK 74008. Pastor Gary Harber will be officiating. Reception, compliments of our wonderful neighbors, will be across the hall from the service, please join us there.
