Larry Scheer Obituary
Larry Dean Scheer, born on February 13, 1949, in Great Bend, KS, to Robert Scheer and Clara (Bowen) Scheer, departed from this world on December 14, 2023.
Larry's passion for music was evident from a young age. He graduated from Del City High School, where he actively participated in the school band.
Continuing his education, Larry earned a master's degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in Music Theory and Conductorship. He graduated with a 4.0 Summa Cum Laude in Music Orchestration.
Throughout his career, he remained dedicated to his musical pursuits and was an active member of the Musicians Union.
A respected educator, Larry taught band at various schools, leaving an indelible mark on students in Salina, KS, Holdenville, Bixby, Wetumka, and Haskell. He led many of his high school bands to State Championships in Band competitions. His commitment to music education extended to his retirement.
Professionally, Larry was a skilled trombonist and keyboard player. He lent his talents to the Route 66 Band, BluRoot, and accompanied several famous performers during their Tulsa appearances.
Beyond his musical achievements, Larry found joy in simple pleasures. Gardening and barbequing brought him relaxation, and he cherished the companionship of his beloved cats and dogs.
In 1996, Larry's life took a beautiful turn when he connected with Patricia Anne East on a musician chatline. One year later, they joined their lives in marriage, making Tulsa their cherished home.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Patty; son, Eric Scheer; granddaughter, Gracie Scheer; devoted sister, Clarice Ashcraft; niece, Kristina Ellington, and her husband, Josh, along with their sons, JP and Jordan; nephew, Cade Scheer; and sister-in-law, Lorna Caraway.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Clara Scheer, and his brother, Edward Scheer.
His memory will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him, and his music will continue to echo through the lives he touched.
May he rest in eternal peace.
