Jerry Lee Cole's Obituary
Jerry Lee Cole, 82, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma was born on January 10, 1943, in Neosho, Missouri, to Kenneth C. and Louise (Meagher) Cole. He spent his childhood between various locations Liberal and Chanute, Kansas and summers on the farm helping his grandparents in Newtonia and Stella, MO.
A proud graduate of Chanute High School's Class of 1961 excelling in football and track where he held school records for over 30 years. Jerry continued his education at Pittsburg State University, where he majored Marketing and Management and played football He enlisted in the Army in July 1963 until 1966 and returned back to Joplin, MO where he spent the remainder of his life.
In time, Jerry was introduced to Sherry Ann Baker through mutual friends. The two shared an immediate connection marrying on February 22, 1975. Their life together was filled with love, laughter, and adventure until Sherry's passing in November 2024.
He has always had a love for automobiles, including his hot rod Copper he had built as a teen. He worked in the automobile management industry, most notable locations of family-owned Cole Lincoln Mercury, Joplin and retired from Gus Shaffar Ford Lincoln Mercury, Joplin.
Jerry had a zest for life, always smiling and never met a stranger. He carried a streak of independence and determination until the very end. His most prized possession was his family. After retirement, he and Sherry sold their home and bought a travel trailer and spent 5 years traveling, meeting new friends and adventuring all over the southern US, until their health no longer allowed.
Jerry passed away at his home on September 27, 2025, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ronald D. Cole; and his beloved wife, Sherry. He is survived by his three children: Scott & Lesa Cole, Birmingham AL, Kerri Still, Broken Arrow, OK and Kelly Cole & Hannah Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Five grandchildren: Colin Cole, Abby Cole, Alex( Ashley) Still, MJ Still, and Jullian Cole, as well as and three great-grandchildren, Jace, Avery and Brooklyn. One Brother-in-law, Philip & Jeane Baker, Fenton, MO and nephews, Jeff Cole and Mark Baker.
A Celebration of Life Service will be scheduled at a later date. More details to come.
