Janie Lee Farley's Obituary
Janie Farley Obituary
Services to honor and remember the life of Janie Farley will be held at 11 AM Friday, July 24, 2020 at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, Broken Arrow, OK. Born June 19, 1943, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Janie Lee Farley was the first of three children born to Cleva Jane (Dawson) Gunnels Walker. Janie’s father, Dorsey Talbert Gunnels, would pass away when Janie was very young. Her mother then married John Walker. Together, Cleva and John raised Janie and welcomed two more sons: Mike and Dewayne. Raised and educated in Tulsa, Janie would complete school at Nathan Hale. She would meet Roy Farley when he was asked, by a friend, to pick Janie up from school. That friend happened to be Janie’s boyfriend, but that would not last long. Roy told his friend that he thought Janie was a keeper, and he intended to do just that – to keep her for himself. Three years later, the two married. The date was January 25, and they were able to celebrate 58 years of marriage this year. Through the years, their family grew with the birth of two sons: Scott and Darren and two granddaughters: Abbye and Emma.To help support her family, Janie found employment with Southwestern Bell. She also began to assist the home builder, Bill Cotner. Through that assistance, Janie was able to get a good handle on how the building process worked as she began forming business relationships with contractors. During this time, Roy had left the restaurant equipment business and had his own racing business. The business was able to support itself, but Janie had a different idea and plan. This was the beginning of Farley Properties. Farley Properties would build countless homes in the Tulsa area, and there was even a season where Roy and, much of his crew, moved to Georgia to build houses. Janie stayed in Tulsa and continued to run the operation locally. Janie loved to work and to decorate. She also loved to keep a meticulous home, as could be seen by the pairs of shoes left by the front door as not to dirty her floors. Hard-working, a woman with a big heart, and one who loved everybody are words that describe Janie. However, you had better be careful not to get on her bad side! In all seriousness, Janie was well-loved and will be deeply missed by those who knew her. She passed from this life on April 3, 2020. She was 76. She is survived by her loving husband, Roy; her sons: Dr. Scott Farley and wife, Kelly and Darren Farley; her granddaughters: Abbye and Emma Farley; her brothers: Mike and Dewyane Walker and a niece, Diane. She was preceded in death by her birth father, Doresey Gunnels, and her parents: Celva and John Walker.
