Janie Sue Coulson's Obituary
Janie Sue Coulson passed away Friday evening, April 19, 2024, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Janie was born December 30, 1962, in Tulsa to Dewey & Johnann (LeForce) Helt. She was raised in the Tulsa area, graduating from Jenks High School in 1981. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and the University's Pom Squad. Janie graduated in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in Public Relations.
It was at OU where she met the love of her life, Scott Coulson. They began dating in September of 1982 (Janie's sophomore year) and were married June 21, 1986, in Tulsa. Janie enjoyed many things throughout her life. Growing up she enjoyed horseback riding, cheer, and pom for the Jenks Trojans. As an adult Janie was a dedicated wife and mother first and foremost. She loved to travel, read, and write; and belonged to several book clubs. She also dedicated her time to the Tulsa Boys Home and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
In 2000, Janie discovered the game of tennis and has been an avid player and fan of the game for the last 24 years. She played in many local leagues and made countless lifelong friends, particularly her large and loving "tennis family" at Philcrest Hills Tennis Club. Janie's kind and loving personality is and will be sorely missed by her family and everyone who was lucky enough to call her "friend." She was truly one-of-a-kind!
She and Scott were blessed with two amazing sons, Travis (wife Samantha) Coulson of Houston, and Matt Coulson of Tulsa, a precious one year old granddaughter, Kyle Coulson. Other surviving family members include her father, Dewey Helt and his wife Sandy; her brother, John Helt; nieces Jessica Helt and Alex Coulson; nephew Mitch Coulson; stepsister Lisa Smith and many other relatives.
Janie was preceded in death by her mother, Johnann LeForce Helt, grandparents John & Burnice LeForce, and Claud & Eva Helt; and two aunts Patsy Inman & Sally Boyd.
Janie's family suggest contributions to the Susan G. Komen for the cure.
At Janie's request, a party will be held at a later time to truly celebrate her life!
