James Alan McDonald

James Alan McDonald, fondly known as Jim, passed away peacefully May 24 at his home in Tulsa following a 10 month battle with cancer. He was born on December 9, 1965, in Claremore, Oklahoma, the son of Doice Burford and Magdalene Mae (Erdmann)McDonald. Jim grew up in Claremore as the youngest of four siblings. He was active in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and notably raised a pig named Rocky. Following his graduation from high school, Jim ventured to Montana, where he dedicated himself to building trails for the forest rangers. His love for the mountains eventually led him to Keystone, Colorado, where he embraced a variety of jobs in and around the ski resorts, cherishing every moment in the majestic landscape. He loved to travel, go camping and spend time outdoors. He has been in each of the 48 contiguous states. Family was always a cornerstone of Jim's life. He was a proficient swimmer and took great joy in teaching multiple family members to swim, often enjoying the lakes and streams throughout Rogers County. Jim was especially fond of water skiing at various lakes in the area. In the late 1990s, Jim returned to Oklahoma to care for his ailing mother. He then worked at Tulsa Regional Medical Center in the purchasing department, later becoming a truck driver for Swift Trucking and MPI, where he also managed the warehouse. Jim's life took a joyful turn when he met Gene at a swim party. Bonding over their shared experiences as truck drivers, their friendship blossomed into a loving partnership of 17 years. Together, they worked as team drivers for Crete Trucking Co. and later, Jim found fulfillment working at Embassy Suites, where he eventually became a banquet manager. Jim had a passion for gardening and was always engaged in various home projects, demonstrating his love for staying busy. He was deeply cherished by his family and friends. His three great-nephews, Drevin, Dalton, and Preston, held a special place in their hearts for their beloved Uncle Jim. Surviving family include his devoted partner, Gene Martin; his siblings, Cindy Root (Jeff) and Harold McDonald (Debbie); his nieces and nephews, Meredith Fuller (Justin), Ashley Mathis (Bobby), and Jonathan Root; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Paul McDonald.
