James Eulys Knox's Obituary
James "Jim" Knox passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, at the age of 93. He left behind a legacy of dedication, wisdom, education, and simple joys of life. He deeply loved God, family, and friends.
Born and raised in Franklin Parish, Louisiana, Jim grew up on a cotton farm with five sisters and two brothers. Life on the farm instilled in him the values of hard work, perseverance, and humility that guided him throughout his life. Proud to attend college under the GI Army bill with a football scholarship to Northeast Louisiana College where he pursued his passion for learning.
Education became both his calling and career. Jim spent decades teaching, coaching, and leading students throughout Louisiana, serving at Bastrop, Monroe, West Monroe, and Sterlington schools. He coached all sports and taught and retired as Principal of Sterlington High School after positively influencing countless students, athletes, and educators.
While in college, Jim met his wife, Mary Ann Allen. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service while raising their two daughters, Kayla, and Kimpa.
Outside of education, Jim found joy in bass and bream fishing, following sports, and, most importantly, spending time with his family. Nothing made him happier than watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and thrive.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Kayla Knox Smith (Richard) and Kimpa Knox (Doug); his grandchildren), Abbey Smith Goodman (Chris), Britton Barnes (Jennifer), Morgan Smith Horwitz (Danny), Briley Barnes Cordasco (Brian); his great-grandchildren, Luke, Jillian, Presley, Georgia, Juliet, Adeline, and Ava; and his sisters, Doris Pressley and Frances Jones. Also, his wonderful, dear companion, Polly Petty, whose friendship and companionship brought true joy to his later years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Knox, his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Jim will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, servant leadership, and unwavering devotion to family. His impact as an educator, coach, husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be felt for generations to come.
An 11:00 a.m. graveside service will be held at Mt. Ararat Cemetery in Downsville, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.
