In the early 1960's I worked the midnight shift in the Edward squad and Chick worked on the evening shift at the new airport. Since the stock car races were on Friday nights at the Fair Grounds, Chick would pay me 15 dollars to work his shift on Fridays that he was racing. Because our pay was about 300 dollars a month that worked out to be about 15 dollars per shift. My house rent was 35 dollars per month so 2 shifts for Chick made my rent for the month. Chic was a great guy always had a smile and a joke. I was forced to retire in 1964 after getting hit by a car working an off duty job at Boots drive in on East Admiral.
