James Arthur Douthit's Obituary
A funeral ceremony honoring the life of James Arthur Douthit, a beloved Jenks resident, will be held at 12 PM Noon on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Rivercrest Chapel. Interment will follow at Bixby Cemetery. A viewing will begin at 10 AM prior to the service. James passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, in Tulsa, at the age of 76.
Born on November 5, 1948, in Mooring, Tennessee, James was the son of James and Mabel (Butler) Douthit. He graduated from Lake County High School in 1966, where he met his high school sweetheart, Mary. The two were married on September 24, 1969, in Tiptonville, Tennessee.
James served proudly in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict, a journey that took him and Mary to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Following his service, they lived in Chicago for 12 years, where James worked for the AB Dick printing company. In 1984, the couple moved to Tulsa in search of a more laid-back lifestyle.
Always eager to learn, James pursued IT training in college and began working in the IT department at Hillcrest Medical Center, where he remained until his retirement in 2008.
A man of many passions, James loved to talk, fish, and take long walks at Kelly Lane Park. He was a true "people person," known for his intellect and his knack for knowing a little bit about everything. His friendly demeanor and kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Mary; two loving daughters, Tracy Douthit and her husband Dean Flanagan, and Lisa Victory; his cherished grandchildren, Cody Evans, Riley Flanagan, McKenzie Victory, and Addison Victory; and his great-grandson, Ayce Evans. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Nance, and her husband David, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mabel Douthit.
His family and friends will forever remember him for his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love.
