Originally posted Sat, Oct 29 at 10:27 PM (Where’d it Go?)Sometime after my father died, 8 May 1954, (I was almost exactly 6-years and 7-months old at the time of his death) I spent some time living with my half-brother, Jack Jr., his wife Bobbie, and their firstborn, Chris, in Wichita, KS. I do not remember if Jeff was also there at that time, but I tend to think so. However, I am certain that Conlee came later. That short-lived, idyllic period was ‘The’ highlight of my childhood.Back then I just knew him as Jackie because that is how all of our Campbell/Graves elders referred to him. He was my full-size-adult big brother, parental figure, teacher, and Campbell family living legend. His demeanor, the aura of his reputation, and the way our family seniors spoke of him were virtually identical to how I remember our father. I am surprised to see a reflection of myself in some of the obituary text. Miss Anderson also schooled me, though only briefly. She too was a gem.As both a private and a public figure, Jackie has always been a Giant to me.My most deeply sincere condolences to Chris, Jeff, and Conlee Campbell and your loved ones.Scott T CampbellEmail: [email protected]
