Ivan Leonard Sleeper, II's Obituary
Ivan Leonard Sleeper II, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, May 7, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was 78 years old. A gentle giant of character and conviction, Ivan lived a life defined by service, family, and an unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ.
Ivan was born on March 8, 1948, in Lansing, Michigan, to Ivan Leonard Sleeper and Sarah Jean (Warren) Sleeper. He grew up in Lansing and graduated from Everett High School in 1966. From an early age, Ivan demonstrated both grit and discipline, becoming a Golden Gloves boxer in his youth. He also had a love for agriculture, proudly showing cattle at local fairs - a pastime that revealed the hardworking, wholesome spirit that would define him throughout his life.
Ivan met the love of his life, Kay, through one of his sisters, Bonnie Jo who was Kay's best friend. The two were united in marriage on October 19, 1968, beginning a partnership that would span nearly six decades. Together, they built a family rooted in faith, laughter, and love.
Answering a call to ministry, Ivan attended Rhema Bible College, where he and Kay were trained and equipped for pastoral service. Together, they served as pastors at Chase County Christian Center in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, shepherding that community with dedication and care.
In his most recent chapter of ministry, Ivan served at Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, where his compassionate heart found a home in practical service. He served as pastor of the church's food pantry, ensuring that those in need were met with dignity and generosity. He was also a devoted bus captain for the church's bus ministry, personally providing transportation to underprivileged children and families. His commitment to that mission took him across the country on a bus - a journey that embodied his belief that ministry happens wherever people have needs.
Ivan also served the broader Tulsa community as a school bus driver for Jenks Public Schools, continuing in his quiet, steady way to watch over the young people in his care.
Ivan is survived by his beloved wife, Kay Ann; his children: Ivan Leonard Sleeper III, Rebekah Kay, Jessica Lynn, Tamra Beth and Luke Jonathan; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; and his sister, Marla Sue Pollok.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Leonard Sleeper and Sarah Jean Sleeper; his brothers, Leroy, David, and Donald; and his sisters, Mary Lou and Bonnie Jo.
A reception celebrating Ivan's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in the Great Room. Family and friends are invited to come share their memories and honor a man who gave so much of himself to so many.
